HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2018 has been quite a year for me photography wise. My work has improved a considerable amount and I continue to learn and improve to make my portfolio the best it can be. I feel like now is a good time to look back on all the images that I have taken and showcase my favourites. This will be a two part post, the first being my Top 5 Favourite Images that aren't related to fashion/beauty/portraiture. Let's go!
5) The Eye Of The Tiger

So I was bored one day. I didn't have to go to work or volunteer and I was feeling creative. I was taking some shots around my house and this was one of the images that came out of that session. This is my beauty of a cat Fudge posing quite dramatically for the camera. I love the detail that shows in her fur and eyes. The soft tones add to the dramatic effect within the image. It reminds a bit of a movie poster. Lion King anyone?
4) The Detail Of Nature

Autumn is my favourite season and I love capturing the beauty of it. I went on a little photography trip to a forest and snapped this up. I learnt the HDR technique over a year ago and I spent the rest of the year perfecting it (most of the images on this list are HDR images). I love using HDR because of the amount of detail it shows. It works best when taking pictures of buildings and architecture but I wanted to capture the detail of this log. I love everything about this picture; the leaves, the moss, the colours. I feel like it captures the season perfectly.
3) Graffiti Art

I love graffiti art and I love taking pictures of it. It's my favourite form of modern art next to photography. This was taken in the city of Bristol. As said in the previous image, HDR works best when wanting to take an image of architecture and this is the perfect example of that. I love the framing of this photograph. The way it looks like both pieces of art are looking at one another, the detail, the lines within it. If I was stood even slightly to the left or right, this image would look completely different and framed all wrong.
2) Balloons

This image was also taken in Bristol. This is one of those pictures that you like but don't really know why. I think the main reason I like this is because of the contrast of colour. The balloons look very colourful next to the dull colour of the buildings and the greyness in the sky.
1) Vamping it up

Okay...I may be a little bit biased here because I'm a huge Vamps fan and a really big fan of Brad BUT I do believe that this deserves the top spot on this list. Not just because I like the photo but this is also the first time that I was able to experiment in something a bit different. I've never really done music photography before and I was so happy I had the opportunity to take pictures of one of my favourite bands with my DSLR camera. This image was taken in London, Piccadilly at the opening event for NFL. I documented the whole day (see my Instagram account to see more of those images - https://www.instagram.com/em_images/) and I got the bug for event photography and it is something that I will be experimenting more in 2019.
So that's it! Those are my top 5 images from mixed genres I took in 2018. You can find all these images and more on my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/em_images/. Part 2 of this post will be my Top 5 Favourite Fashion Images, check out my other Instagram that focusses purely on my fashion and portrait photography and see if you can find my favourites! https://www.instagram.com/ekm__photos/
