2018 was the year of fashion for me. I worked really hard building the bulk of my portfolio specialising in fashion. I worked with some extremely talented people and I wanted to share my top 5 favourite fashion images from my favourite shoots.
5) Coral
Team: Model - Coral, MUA - Kristi

I did a project last year surrounding a vintage theme. This shoot was a beauty shoot which is mainly focussed on the make-up. Kristi specialises in vintage make-up so she was the perfect MUA for the job. Coral models on the side of her studies and both girls had tremendous characters. Not only was this one of my favourite images but it was also one of my favourite shoots as we all got on like a house on fire. The soft tones of this image is what makes it one of my favourites and the lighting shows the make up to its full potential. The main lighting that was used for this shoot where soft boxes and beauty dishes. Soft boxes were a were an absolute god send for this project!
4) Kieanna
Team - Model - Kieanna, MUA/Hairstylist - Naazneen

I also experimented a lot in Asian bridal shoots as this was something I have wanted to do for a very long time. A bridal shop based in Birmingham were kind enough to allow me and my team to use one of their dresses and accommodate our shoot in part of their shop. The make-up and hair was absolute flawless! (I mean, I would have thought so after about 3-4 hours of working on it). Naazneen is one of the most talented MUAs I have ever come across and Kieanna was absolutely perfect for this look. Everything about this shoot was just stunning! Despite what it looks like, this shoot was on location rather than a photography studio so the lighting was extremely difficult to get right. Despite that, I think this particular portrait was beautiful, from the colours to the make-up to the model and the tight framing. I would love to experiment in bridal shoots a lot more in the future.
3) Polly
Model - Polly, Designer - Grace

I worked with Polly and Grace several times over the last year and both are incredibly talented. This has to be the most interesting and detailed garment I have ever had to photograph and I loved it so much! Other than the fact that the look was so interesting, I just love the whole mood of the photograph. I adore taking portraits but this full body shot deserved to be in my top five.
2) Gia
Model - Gia, MUA - Kristi, Hairstylist - Amy

Okay, I'm just going to say, I out did myself with this lighting and that's why this image has made the second stop on the list. A beauty dish was placed directly in front of the model and a hard light was facing the black backdrop to create a spotlight affect. Not only that, Gia was such an amazing model and the girl is only 17! I've worked with a lot of professional models over the past 3 years and Gia is up there with the best. This was a very 40s inspired shoot and as Kristi specialised in vintage make-up, I asked her to join me for another collaboration. She also brought along her friend who was a hairstylist who also specialised in the vintage look so they were the perfect tag team. Some of my best work ever came out of this photoshoot and I would love to work with this team again.
1) Holly
Model - Holly, MUA - Sydnee, Designer - Grace

This should be no surprise that an image from this shoot was my number 1 spot. Holly is the most experienced model I've ever worked with and we met in a photography workshop from one of my uni classes (images from that workshop at in my portfolio). This was the first shoot where I worked with Grace for the first time and where I fell in love with her designs. Sydnee was a just an MUA college student but you would have thought she'd been doing it for years. It was tough choosing what my favourite image was from this shoot as I loved pretty much all the final images that came out of it. I decided on this image purely for the fact that it's a photo I always come back to. It's always the first image in my printed portfolios and I make sure it's the first image interviewers see when they look through my work. The lighting is what also makes it my favourite. Two soft boxes were used, one directly in front of her creating butterfly lighting, and the other was to her right to decrease any shadow on her face as I was trying to create a very clean look. The purple tones were added in the post processing to add more character.
So those are my top 5 favourite fashion shots from 2018. I have definitely improved a lot since I started focussing more on fashion. I'm using my time now to branch off in to other genres of photography however, fashion and portraiture are the genres I'm always going to specialise in. I still have a lot of learning to do though. I am currently learning a more advanced re-touch technique as the one I have been using fails to bring texture to the face which is something my images are lacking and that is extremely important in fashion photography, specifically beauty portraits. There is always room for improvement and that is my next goal in my fashion photography journey.
