"Nothing ever changes here, I know. Another day another year, same old."
So I thought it would be a good idea to start a new series on my blog. This new series is going to be called "Songs to Snap" and every month I will take a picture that is associated with a song. The song is either going to be chosen because it's something I relate to, it's one of my all time favourites or it's a song I've been listening to a lot lately and want to interpret the meaning of in to a photograph.
My January photo was inspired by the song "This Town" by Kygo ft Sasha Sloan (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pwttmAYCTw). The reason that I chose this is because...well...it's a banger! But also because I'm relating to the meaning of the song a lot at this point in my life. I've just moved back from a big city to my small hometown and it's known for being a bit dead. There's not much to do here and nothing ever happens and I would do anything to escape it. I've been feeling lately that I'm too ambitious to live in a place like this. I wouldn't say that it isn't a creative town but the creativity is definitely hidden and hard to find. In a city you're surrounded by music and art and culture but here it just goes unappreciated. This song is about wanting to leave the town that you're in with someone special and create a new life of you're own and that's something I would do anything to have.
The photo itself is an HDR image of the Railway Village in the town centre. It's a pretty historical place. It's opposite the train station and the village was built for the railway workers in the 1800s. As this song is quite slow and serious I didn't want the photo to have much brightness or colour. It was a pretty grey day so the lighting was dark which was just how I wanted it. If the sky was blue and cloudless and the sun was shining, it wouldn't have got the dull, boring feel to it the same which is exactly how I see my town. In the post processing, I made sure the vibrance and the saturation was turned down to make it more grey however I kept the detail of the brick work in as much as I could. I did this because although this town is extremely boring, it still has a lot of hidden beauty and history...you've just got to go an find it.
Well that's it for the month of January! February is the month of love so maybe my next post in the series has something to do with that? Or maybe it doesn't?...I mean...I really don't know I haven't taken it yet so...I guess it will be a surprise to us all!
