Songs to Snap - Paper Hearts, The Vamps - February

"If my heart was paper I'd fold it, throw it to the wind and just hope it ends up with you"

February is the month of love. It is the home of Valentines Day. Everybody spends Valentines Day differently, some spend it with their partners, others spend it by themselves eating ice cream enjoying their own company (me). Some countries celebrate Valentines Day as a celebration of friendship. No matter how you spent the day, I wanted to take the opportunity to use this celebration for my next Songs to Snap image for the month of February.

The song chosen is by one of my all time favourite bands The Vamps. Paper Hearts is TECHNICALLY a break up song...something you probably don't want to have to think about on Valentines Day. It was more the title that inspired this image rather than the song and the lyrics itself. I cut out a paper heart and placed it on to a page of a book. If you look at the text closely, it shows the story of Sylvie and Bruno by Lewis Carrol. I haven't read the entire story of Sylvie and Bruno so I couldn't tell you what it's about however, I am always drawn to this page of the book where Sylvie and Bruno sing a song about love:

"For I think that it is love,

For I feel it is love,

For I'm sure it is nothing but love"

Now, I don't know about you but that seemed pretty fitting to me. So I placed the paper heart on to the page talking about love, added a piece of jewellery to give the image more character and took the photo. In the post processing, I felt that it fitted better in black and white rather than in full colour. The main thing that I love the most about black and white images is the contrast between the light and the darks. The lightness of the paper next to the darkness of the text makes the image stand out. I then put a texture over it to make the pages look a bit old and worse for wear. Again, this was to give the image a bit more character. After doing that I felt that my image was complete and reflected what I wanted to capture well.

It is now the beginning of March and I may have waited until the very last day of February to take this image...but in my defence, the image was still taken in the month of February! I didn't want to leave it till last minute again so I have already taken my Songs to Snap image for the month of March which will be posted at the end of the month.
